Dear friends, living or dead,

it’s cold. In my tomb it’s even much more colder than cold. Everywhere is this white mass people call snow. Sometimes it’s pretty nice to look at, but if you cannot feed on humans because nobody is out with this weather it begins to tremble on my nerves. On one of these boring days I checked all my web presences and tried to see how much THE STORY OF DAGON has spread.

And I like what I have seen. From my website and from Jamendo people downloaded the album 315 times. Thats pretty good for making no advertisements at all. That’s how it should work, if you ask me.

Besides that nearly all of the books has gone. I was pretty surprised that people still an exclusive a little expensive edition of a release when the music is available for free. But that’s todays standard, I guess.

However. I have decided to add some new sites on the web. It’s Facebook, and you should all know about it. I do not plan to use this as my primary communication tool, but try to keep it up to date.

the new CULTES DES GOULES album has been released today! Since now you are able to download the whole album for free.

I have been working for this album for more than a year now. It’s in the kind of a radioplay. It’s a bit unusual, since there a more orchestral and depressing elements in it than rock basses. But I hope you like this musical experiment as I do and are willing to follow me this depressive path.

I couldn’t sleep this very day and so I crept out from my catacombs and write this little update while the nasty sun wents higher and higher. Well, after all even we undead are sleepless from time to time and have to stay up too long. But well, no problem at all. Maybe this happened cause there was so much doing lately? I don’t know.

Things are strange in music business currently. I guess you already recognized it. I am very glad that I am out of this business and happily call myself an Amateur. We all learned from Mr. Lovecraft himself, that beeing an Amateur is nothing bad. It gives you the freedom to do whatever you want and stop, were you begin to sell out. Good for CULTES DES GOULES, I daresay. I recently had several conversations with Jazz musicians about my music. They all were very impressed by the new, strange stuff I did and you will be able to listen to on Halloween this year.
They compared this to a guy called Moondog, who worked in NY the last century. Great guy, I admit meanwhile. And its really similar to me. Considering the appreciated feedback of real talented musicians, I am now able to say, that the music of CULTES DES GOULES is strange, obscure and terrible. You decide if it is terrible in a good or a bad way. At least it is – and there is no doubt about it – extremly extraordinary.

A band like CULTES DES GOULES will never have too much friends. Followers are of a special kind, total individual people without the need to have the “perfect” sound or to have the “hardest composition ever” (which usually results in a record of KORN). No. I am Amateur and my followers, and that are the most readers of this letter, really appreciate it. They get, what is long lost in todays music scene: extra ordinary music, with no tolerance to any style or cliche which currently exists. Thank you for beeing of my own kind and thank you for listening and sharing your personal darkness with me!

But I’ll stop now – the sun heats my room, I need to step back into the darkness of my catacombs.

But would you enjoy jamming with a Mac?

I  think it was pretty hard for my fellows to find my music running from the box and bringing in their own ideas. Finally we ended up in a very strange happening and I guess nobody knew what this evening could have been called. It was not a rehearsal… it was some kind of meeting up.

Now I am thinking about that. The fullmoon shines on my desk and I am drinking wine. The guys were competent musicians. But the guitar player usually wanted to change the music from violas, depression and sadness into some kind of modern music. I think the name is nu metal or something like that.

I don’t think that they are any other musicians out there, who ever will understand the music of CULTES DES GOULES. The music has been become to experimental, too obscure for people with a normal musical taste. The constant use of distorted basses, the evil choirs and the orchestra is unique, whatever people say. I was looking for about two years for fitting comrades – I may give up now. I am alone.

Too extraordinary is the music. The horrors are not part of the todays music standards.

I enjoy it.

And I hope, you, my dear reader, do the same. Follow me on the path of horrors, loneliness and darkness.

You, my dear reader, might be one of the outstanding individuals, who might see the same strange light of darkness that I see day for day.

I am writing these while sitting in the catacombs studios and listening to a very raw mix of the new upcoming CULTES DES GOULES album. All instruments and voices are recorded. I am very glad to say that this album is the most obscure, dark and evil work I did till now. I don’t have any labels for the music. It’s a mix of deep drums, orchestral strings and trumpets and – on some parts, where it fits – with distorted basses.

How would you call such a music? I really don’t know. But I guess, this is good for CULTES DES GOULES, which is experimental in all kinds.

The next time is beeing the time for mixing and finally mastering the album. Besides that, cover artwork is calling too. For that album I have very special ideas. Look forward for the title announcement of this… radio play!

I just have uploaded a new demo song for the upcoming horror album of CULTES DES GOULES. The song is called DIE SONNE and can listen to it on the CULTES DES GOULES MySPACE site. It’s totally different from all the other songs CULTES DES GOULES performed before – thousand of neoclassical influences, ancient instruments and more can be heard.

I have few parts on my new CULTES DES GOULES recording which needs some guitar tunes. If you or a friend of yours can play guitar (quite simple stuff), play midi and record wave/aiff files on your computer, contact me.

it’s may and unfortunatly this means that the sun reigns over the world. Good ghuls like me try to stay in their catacombs and feast on the living. And some more, as you can read in the following news!

However, in the time of daylight I thought lots about todays music scene. For music like GHUL PRODUCTIONS publishes it it is difficult nowadays. There are tons of other bands out there and usually GHUL PRODUCTIONS stands for strange and weird stuff. I am not doing real CDs anymore. On the first day BARATHRUM has been released, it was available in the net for download (without permission of course). But no harm has been done – it’s sold out and the true die hard fans got a copy!

But whats going on with other bands on the roaster? CULTES DES GOULES is really to strange and the new recordings prove that again. You can hear yourself when it’s public available.

This leds me to a question: how should I release my music? I’m thinking about some collectors editions in a 100 piece edition and a free download for those who just want the MP3s. What do YOU think about such behaviour? Let me know!

You read it in the letter, it’s sold out since the first day available! This CD-R has been a great success for such a small label like GHUL PRODUCTIONS is and I would like to thank the great BARATHRUM community and of course the band for letting this happen!

Actually nothing bad happens – everybody (I know so far) was happy with the music and I actually made a few bucks. But no, I don’t want to drive a porsche someday, this less money is going directly to the other release I plan this year. Anyway, thanks!

Yes it’s true. FAUSTCOVEN and CULTES DES GOULES created two songs together. You know, I am the sole CULTES DES GOULES musician and this makes me very proud to share vinyl with FAUSTCOVEN. Having that said, we allready have a label for this black piece – but this is still secret till the label announces this itself. Till then everything else is a secret. Even when this vinyl never comes out it was fun.
And as a bonus: I have been asked to play the drums for the FAUSTCOVEN side – and I did it!

there were some rumours in the past, and finally we did it: FAUSTCOVEN and CULTES DES GOULES share vinyl together. Both bands created a song which describe a horrible but true story. Both songs are destructive and extraordinary and will be released by – ah, well, this is a small secret and I will provide it when the label has officially anounced it And no – it’s not Ghul Productions!
